Faculty CIP starts this Saturday and in case you don’t know, we will be helping out in two locations: Jalan Bukit Merah and Henderson. Do take note of the location your class is allocated to!

Classes going to Henderson: 15S60, 15S6A, 16S6A

Classes going to Jalan Bukit Merah: all other classes

For those who are heading to Henderson for Faculty CIP this Saturday, here are some directions to help you find your way! If you are heading to Jalan Bukit Merah instead, continue scrolling down to the previous post for the directions.

Exact Address: Blk 117 Bukit Merah View

Alight at Red Hill MRT, exit from Exit A to Tiong Bahru Road. You will see the Ananas cafe (Don’t cross the road!). Take bus 132 or 145 and alight at Opposite Henderson Secondary School.

Walk up the steps beside the bus stop and walk towards the right. You will pass by Creation Optics shop.

Walk through block at the right of Creation Optics and continue walking straight on the carpark. You will pass by this sign that says May Wong Social Centre and Henderson Home.

Continue walking towards the void deck on the right of the market. Walk beyond the two lifts and you will see the mailboxes of block 117. And you have arrived! This will be where we are meetinng 😀

In the event that you lose your way, please do not hesitate to contact your senior ct rep or any faccomm member for help.

Hi Athena!!

Faculty CIP will commence this Saturday! There are two locations for this Saturday’s CIP, namely Jalan Bukit Merah and Henderson.

First up, for those who are going for this Saturday’s CIP @ Jalan Bukit Merah, here are some directions that will hopefully help!!!

Exact address:

BLK 117, Jalan Bukit Merah

Directions:

Alight at Tiong Bahru MRT, exit to Tiong Bahru Road in front of Tiong Bahru Plaza

Alternatively, buses 147, 167, 175, 196, 197, 961 or 961 C will bring you to Blk 201, which is just a few blocks away.

Cross the road and walk along Jalan Membina until you reach a main road junction.

To make sure that you are on the right track, you should be passing by Zhangde Primary School!

Once you reach the road junction turn left and continue walking until you reach Tiong Bahru Orchid. Blk 117 is just inside. This is our assembly point 😀 The Senior Activity Centre (SAC) is located at Blk 117 where all the furniture and cleaning kits will be at.

The whole walk should take less than 15 minutes!

In the event that you get lost, do not hesitate to contact your ct rep/any of the faccomm members to ask for help.

Do be reminded that the attire on Saturday will be your Fac CIP shirt and berms/long pants, and do not bring bags/ other bulky items!!

Hi Athenians!!

Find yourself experiencing withdrawal symptoms a month after Orientation, POP and Dramafeste? Never fear! Faculty CIP is here, and it’s right around the corner!

Many of you have signed up for Fac CIP and are probably wondering what it’s all about. Presenting “Silver Homes”, Athena Faculty CIP 2016, which invites you to help our beneficiaries paint or clean up their homes! Most of you probably haven’t done something like this before, and it’ll be a great chance to challenge yourself, step out of your comfort zone. However, what is most important is that we are able to help people in need. Ahoot!!

We assure that this will be an enjoyable new experience for you! It’ll also be a wonderful opportunity to bond with your classmates, whom you’ve gotten to know over the last couple of months.

This year’s Fac CIP is gonna be held on 3 consecutive Saturdays: 9th, 16th and 23rd April. The location changes every week, so do take note of the details below!

9th April : Jalan Bukit Merah and Henderson Home

16th April: Lengkok Bahru

23rd April: Redhill

(Directions will be posted nearer to the day of the CIP)

Now, on a more serious note, here’s some important information that you need to know:

1. Consent forms!!! These are important! Remember to pass your consent forms to your CT Rep/senior CT Rep before the start of the event, else you may not be allowed to participate! The forms are required for administrative purposes.

2. Attire!! Remember to wear the faculty CIP shirt that will be passed to you this coming week. As for bottoms, please wear pants that cover your knees! This means no shorts, no FBTs, no miniskirts, no swimming trunks… you get the picture. If you aren’t properly attired, the teachers may bar you from participating so please do take note!!

3. Safety!! While you’re in public, remember to exercise good judgment and common sense 😀 This means watching out for where you step (especially when barefoot in the residential units), not playing with your equipment and not climbing on chairs to paint. If any accidents happen, inform your CT Rep/senior CT Rep so that we can attend to you immediately! Remember, safety first!!

Take care of yourself!

4. Most importantly, responsibility. We have allocated your classes to the units based on the attendance that you have indicated. As such, please turn up on the days which you have indicated that you’ll be coming on, because if not your other classmates may be overworked. Furthermore, if you are allocated to painting, please remember not to paint the door hinges, and remember to place newspapers/plastic sheets over the floor and furniture!

Be responsible to yourself and your friends!

5. Lastly, for all junior classes, we have a task for you! Other than painting or cleaning up houses, we would appreciate it if you are able to interact with the people who we are helping, who are mostly elderly. We require every junior class to chat with the elderly and submit their stories!! One to two stories per junior class would do. Please do submit the story to your senior CT rep by 30th April! Doing so would allow you to learn more about Singapore’s past and better appreciate how fortunate we are today. Please do chat with the elderly, doesn’t matter if you are C1 or C2, doesn’t matter if you are writing the story or if someone else is doing it, chatting with the elderly will definitely benefit you.

Remember to chat with the elderly!

HELLO C1’s! Welcome to Athena and hope you had fun throughout Orientation!!

Orientation is now over and we (Council + FacComm) hope that you’ve taken this opportunity to experience the Hwa Chong experience and at the same time bond and make new friends!! Fret not, there is still POP and Dance Practices so you’ll still have plenty of time to make new memories with your classmates and friends :))

POP IS NEXT FRIDAY 19 FEB 2016 WE HOPE YOU ARE AS EXCITED AS WE ARE!!

A few things to note

1. Please make sure that you are familiar with all of your dance moves!! If you are unsure of anything, don’t hesitate to approach your Senior CT Rep or any Athena FC member 🙂 Most importantly, do attend all of the 2 remaining practices + 1 Tech Run. Here are the timings:

15 Feb Monday 1600-1800 Central Plaza (IMPT!!!!! TO GET USED TO YOUR LINES)

16 Feb Tuesday 1530-1730 JC Field

17 Feb Wednesday 1830-1900 Central Plaza (Tech Run) (IMPT TO GET USED TO YOUR LINES!!!)

2. Make sure your lines are straight at all times!!! Make sure you are directly behind the person in front of you as straight lines are very very very very important in POP!!!!!!

3. MOST IMPORTANTLY HAVE FUN!!!! POP IS ABOUT HAVING FUN!!!

Who knows, we may even end up winning POP! All the Senior FC expects from you is to try your best and have fun! We have faith in you Junior Owls!!! Jiayou!!!!! Tutorials will be up soon on the Athena Faculty Youtube Channel so please stay tuned :))

LASTLY, while Faculty Pride is importantly, we should all remember that we are part of the larger community which is Hwa Chong!! 4 FACS 1 HWACH!!!!!!

HELLO ATHENA!

Recently, we had our second Faculty Outing of the year, Pura Vida and we dare say it was a success!! The Athena FacComm hopes everyone who attended Pura Vida had a whale of a time 🙂 FacComm sure did!!

With the conclusion of this event, we would like to thank the following people for making this event possible:

Last Saturday marked the very first Faculty Outing of 2015, and we hope that you guys had as much fun as we did throughout the evening

Hey Athena!

Razzle Dazzle is just one day and away and are you ready with your best outfit to be crowned the best dressed? Before that, let us help you get to the venue!

Directions to Safra Mount Faber:

The nearest MRTs are Harbourfront and Tiong Bahru. From Tiong Bahru, you can take bus 195 at the bus stop opposite Tiong Bahru Plaza. Alight at opp Blk 11 which is 6 stops away.

From there, Safra is just up ahead 🙂 Alternatively, bus 145 from the bus stop right outside Vivocity will also bring you to the venue. Alight at opp Blk 1 which is just 6 stops away!

For more bus options, you can also take bus 131 from the bus stop opposite Vivocity to arrive at opp Blk 11.

Once you reach this bus stop you will be able to spot the prominent yellow building of Safra just opposite 🙂

Our faculty outing will be held at the second level of Safra!

Now that you know how to get there, do remember to bring your ticket! Do note that crashing is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

Hey Athenians!

As you guys all know, we are just one week from a promised night of fun and excitement at Razzle Dazzle! Be pumped up for a dazzling evening of partying, performances, popcorn and prizes!! However, first things first: I bet everyone is wondering – how do I dress to impress for FO??? Well, the dress code for Razzle Dazzle is Black, white and champagne!

For girls: Rock that little black dress

Alternatively, show off your sweet sides with a white dress:

The key to look dazzling is to accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!!

For the guys: Semi-formal- button down shirt and slacks are the way to go! Dress it up with a blazer or a tie, or be quirky with suspenders or bowties!

What not to do:

No T-shirts, shorts and slippers!!

Remember guys, we are on the look out for Mr and Ms Best Dressed, so go all out to impress us at Fac Outing!
