WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS~

and we could almost hear this song ringing in our head when we found out we won FOS (: it was really really heartening to see  everyone playing their hearts out for every single match.

at the swimming pool we saw the flippa ball boys fighting their hearts out against a team everyone else thought would undoubtedly take the gold medal. most of the girls in the flippa ball team had hardly any experience but they put up a good fight and it was evident from the passion we saw on their faces. both flippa ball teams put every ounce of energy into every single pass, every single stroke they swam, playing their best. and it all paid off.
flippa ball boys: 1st. flippa ball girls: 3rd.

athena took the basketball court(s) by storm. both basketball boy teams put up a good fight for their opponents, with one of the teams bouncing back during the finals to defeat a team they had originally lost to. the first match of FOS was basketball, and when we saw athena team 1 taking the first game by a huge margin of 36-6, we immediately had a good feeling about how this was all going to turn out (: the basketball girls were the underdogs – without a single basketball player in the team, none of the other faculties saw them as a threat. and so they went out there and took everyone by surprise, beating other teams that were seen as favourites and eventually making their way to the finals.
basketball guys: 1st, 3rd. basketball girls: 2nd.

and neither did anyone think highly of our netball girls, without a single netball player in the team. but they put up a fantastic fight against other teams who might’ve originally belittled them, and went against the odds to land a place in the finals. we saw them fight so hard for every single ball, trying to intercept every pass the opposing team made, blocking every shot made by the goal shooters/attackers. and all that hard work paid off.
netball girls: 2nd.

we move over to the tennis courts, where we saw two athena teams winning almost every single game in their preliminary rounds, advancing smoothly to the semi finals. on one team we saw how the giant figures of the basketballers managed to overcome almost every team without any difficulty, and despite how other faculties were all cheering the opponent teams on, they managed to win every single game by a huge score margin. on the other team we saw a fantastic display of teamwork, where quick passing and fast players left their opponents trailing behind. and both teams were simply fantastic.
captain’s ball: 1st, 3rd.

next comes the patch of green grass almost in the middle of nowhere (we don’t rly know what to call it). there we saw the ultimate frisbee teams putting up a good fight against all the teams they were against. they put in their all into a sport that was so much more than just throwing a disc – the amount of running they had to do, the amount of sweat (and maybe blood) they put into just doing their best for the faculty.
ultimate frisbee: 4th.

no one thought highly of the volleyball teams either. they tried their best to save every single spike, every single volley against other teams that were originally preferred over them. (insert all technical terms we’re not very sure of) and they indeed put up a good show, impressing many others who were sitting around and watching. even the teams themselves did better than they expected, managing to clinch impressive results.
volleyball boys and girls: both 3rd.

the school hall was bustling with excitement. most of the floorball girls had little experience in playing floorball, but they continued to play their best, being able to restrategise after their first match and eventually draw with an ares team that ended with a top 3 finish. the floorball guys were in the zone – playing fantastically and they were simply marvellous, leaving all the spectators from other faculties speechless and at a loss for words.
floorball boys: 1st

last but not least, the boys and girls in the high school and college street soccer courts owned all the other facs with their nifty footwork! even when teams were a goal or two down they still put in their all and played with such panache, and those watching at the sidelines could not help but just be awed at the magnificent skill and teamwork the athenian teams showed.
soccer boys: 2nd. soccer girls: 1st.

and so marks the end of the (not so summarised) summary for the festival of sports. we’d just like to say that we’re so so so so so damn proud of every single one of you. thank you for putting in your all for the faculty, and for those sports who didn’t win, it’s okay 🙂 when we were standing on the bridge accepting the trophy and leading everyone in the cheer earlier there was just a rush of pride surging through our souls because there’s no other faculty we would rather take charge of.

special mention goes to YONGHWEE and BELINDA, the awesome sports I/Cs who worked so so hard behind the scenes, forming the teams, gathering contact numbers and providing drinks for everyone on the days itself.

thank you athena, for everything. because these are memories we would look back on and smile to ourselves about, thinking about what an awesome faculty we are 🙂 AND WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS~~~
